HISTORY OF CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH, MONTICELLO, IL

 

In 2010 Calvary Baptist Church of Monticello, IL celebrates 50 years of worship and service to the community.  Several past and more recent documents tell the story of the beginnings, growth and witness of the church in these years.

 

SYNOPSIS OF HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS

 

#1 – “The Little Church That Could,” written by Robert Anderson, the first pastor to serve at CBC  (1958- 1966).  It was written after the new sanctuary was dedicated in 2004.  It details his memories of important events that shaped the early church.

 

#2 – “History of the Monticello Southern Baptist Mission.” This one page document was written for the chartering of the church, May 8, 1960.

 

#3 -- “A Church Remembers.” This booklet was written by Lana Ross, a member of the church, for the 25th anniversary of the church.  It was written in May 1985.

 

#4 – “List of Significant Dates.” This list of dates was gleaned from reading the church minutes in preparation for the 50th anniversary.  It was compiled by Lana Ross in 2010.

 

#5 – “Memoirs of a Church Member.” This document is musings of Lana Ross about the second 25 years of the church’s service.  Written May 2010
