Tornado Damage to & Rebuilding of Calvary Baptist Church
On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 24, 2001, a tornado swept through Monticello, and in its path was our church. The tornado destroyed the sanctuary, part of the foyer, the baptistry, as well as causing water damage and roof damage to other parts of the building.
We give thanks to the Lord that no one was in the building at the time, and that no one was injured as a result. We are working together to continue our missions and ministries while we prepare to plan for a new or restored church home.
Please feel free to go to the following link to read a news story from the Champaign News-Gazette. We hope to use this page to chronicle our journey from tornado damage to having a full-use church building again!
